Four masks had quietly been removed from the building prior to the fire. http://www.detroitfunk.com/?p=4516 Beginning in 1969, Eastown's stage hosted famous performers like Alice Cooper, the Doors, Pink Floyd, Jefferson Airplane, Bob Seger, Jethro Tull and the Grateful Dead.
From
1984 until 1990, the Eastown was host to a performing arts group. Photos of the fire are at http://www.detroitfiregroundimages.com/Fire-Scenes/Detroit-2nd-Alarm-Harper/13266211_ykGYv#963611023_wEowz Many residents feel the fire was suspicious. Patrick wrote athttp://www.detroityes.com/mb/showthread.php?t=6633 The cause of the August 9th fire is undetermined. No accusations of foul play have been alleged by authorities at this time. . DETROIT,
MI — A suspected arson fire has destroyed the apartments portion of the
long abandoned Eastown
Theatre. As a result, what’s left of the building is expected to be
torn down. Photos and video of the aftermath can be found fromDetroitFunk.com as well as at DetroitFiregroundimages.com After
its days as a movie theater ended, the Eastown was best known as a rock
concert venue in the 1970s. This is a sad loss for what was once a
gorgeous Cinema Treasure serving the east side of Detroit. Rock & Roll Bands at the Eastown
